Have Your Portrait Created in Renaissance Drawing Medium.

Portraits as an artform have become more popular than ever before. However, still many hesitate in having their likeness immortalized in the noble mediums of drawing, oil painting or pastel. The process can seem mysterious or even intimidating.

The truth of the matter is that there are many ways a portrait can be created. Ideally, a person sits for their portrait as many sittings required for the artist to create the work. The number of sittings usually depends upon the medium: oil, charcoal, pastel, etc. When that option is not available photographic references can be used to supplement or replace the sittings.

A little note on Sanguine drawing. Sanguine, or red chalk, is one of the oldest drawings materials in existence. It's beautiful tone and capacity for delicate modeling made it a favorite for the Italian Renaissance artists such as Michelangelo, Rapheal and Leonardo da Vinci.
